What:
Encaustic Workshop at Paula’s Studio
Natalie and I will be co-leading a closed studio workshop on the uses both traditional and experimental of the encaustic medium. This is an ancient medium that uses beeswax, tree resin and pigment. The workshop will last approximately 5 hrs and there will be a potluck to be enjoyed afterward. Participants are welcome to engage with medium at whatever level they feel comfortable. Please be advised there are toxic materials and the use of a respirator is advised.
Learning Outcomes:
• Studio set up + safety
• Tools and materials
• Encaustic recipes
• Exploring different heat sources, effects + fusing
• Working with wax medium, layering + colors
• Carving, scraping + inlaid colors

5th Annual Portland Love Show is a huge open-call show about love of all types and shades, from romance to bromance, heart-ache to heartless to heartwarming, mysterious, delirious, deleterious, disappearing and reappearing, cheering, jeering and sneering- thisshow has room for your love or lack there of, because it’s not all pink hearts, chocolate and doilies.
Please donate cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank at the opening and throughout month and donating 10% of our bar sales and 5% of vendor sales to American Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief. 5% of art sales will benefit Zimbabwe Artists Project and 5% will benefit Portland City Art.

What:
The theme is a complicated one. Everyone has issues with family- where we come from, who we are, who we want to become (and who we fear we will become) and where we each belong- all of these things are tied in a messy Gordian knot, laced together with a heavy braid of blood, sex, history, birth, death, adventure, childhood, friendship, loss and so much more.
